BEST TIMES TO POST ON INSTAGRAM AND WHY.
It's one thing to take the perfect photo for a post and think of a caption let alone figure out the best time to actually post it! Sometimes all your hard work can fall on just a fraction of your followers because, as I've talked about before the Social Media Gods are ruthless.
Studies use to show that posting at 6 am and 6 pm where the best times to post but now the algorithms have changed this information is no longer relevant. #ohman! #justwhenithoughtihadmyshittogether
So, with 24 hours in a day, algorithms to beat and customers habits changing I've put together a crash course on how to choose YOUR BEST times to post.
HOW TO KNOW YOUR BEST TIMES TO POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
1. KNOW YOUR FOLLOWERS.
This comes back to knowing exactly who your customer is (again). Knowing what her movements are throughout her day are key to making good posting decisions.
For example:
If she's a mum? Don't post in the morning, well not until school drop off is over. However, posting after 9 am, while she's waiting for her takeaway coffee before she shoots off home to do the washing would be ideal. She's bored so she'll be scrolling.
Or maybe she's a professional career woman? Avoid posting between 9 am and 5 pm. However, consider posting during her lunch break anywhere from 11 am to 2 pm. She'll be checking in, so she'll be scrolling.
2. TIMEZONES.
Keep in mind your customer's timezones. For a silly example, perhaps you live in Victoria but most of your customers reside in Queensland because you make swimwear! You'll need to adjust your timing to suit daylight savings. Or even other countries timezones. An hour can make such a difference when it comes to being shown in a feed.
3. ASSUME EVERYONE IS BUSY ON WEEKENDS!
Post all your important posts during the week. Studies show that engagement falls slightly on the weekend. Which is not hard to see why. We live such busy lives, we're either mad as snakes getting stuff done or were zoned out completely recovering from the week that's was!
4. POSTING MORNING? POST EARLY.
If you know posting in the morning works for your engagement try and do it as early as possible. Do this because your followers sometimes maybe following thousands of other accounts so getting in early means you're sooner in their feed. Post too late and you'll never show up.
5. POSTING NIGHT? POST EARLY.
Same principle as above. So many accounts to compete with so if you're posting at night get in anywhere from 5:30 pm. Post too late and you'll never show up.
6. TRIAL AND ERROR.
Bit tedious but consider it homework. Study the number of likes and comments within your account and jot the days and times down, the good stuff and the null stuff that happened. If you see a pattern that's working then continue that (until they decide to change things up again!).
Lastly, I wrote a WHOLE blog on how to write captions that increase engagement and get your account further up the ranks when it comes to exposure on social media.
